EP 17 - Shooting the SH@T (Streaming vs. Theaters, Working Class Filmmaking, and Star Wars)

Nic and Quade talk about the current struggles of movie theaters. How 007 almost sold to a streaming service. About the current patent and copyright laws and how they could be changed to benefit creatives. How filmmaking needs to return to it's roots as a working class artform. The disconnect between the filmmaking industry and the average person and how this disconnect is expressed in films like Star Wars.

About the Podcast

Deep Focus
Welcome to Deep Focus! The podcast where love of cinema and thoughtfulness in storytelling triumphs over pedantic, self-consciousness, and overly clever critiques.
Deep Focus features conversations, and sometimes arguments, from hosts Quade Wooten and Nicholas Galligan. As filmmakers, they analyze cinema by breaking down the filmmaking techniques and trying to find the insight in each movie. Nic and Quade agree and quarrel in equal measure as they discuss storytelling philosophies, rate lists of films, talk about great filmmakers, and breakdown aspects of cinema. All storytelling mediums and artforms are fair game, but our hosts have a love for cinema. Welcome to Deep Focus! The podcast where love of cinema and thoughtfulness in storytelling triumphs over pedantic, self-consciousness, and overly clever critiques.
